Teen Mental Health Treatment in Horsham, PA

You have probably been watching this for a while.

Maybe it started with the grades. Maybe it was the team they quit, or the friends who stopped coming around, or a bedroom door that stays shut now. Maybe your kid is still going through the motions at school and falling apart the minute they get home. Whatever it looks like in your house, you have reached the point where weekly therapy does not feel like enough and a hospital feels like too much.

There is something in between. That is what we do.

Hope’s Destiny is an outpatient mental health program in Horsham for teenagers ages 14 to 18. We offer real clinical treatment, several hours a day, several days a week, with licensed clinicians and a psychiatrist. And your teenager sleeps at home and stays enrolled in their own school.

Call or text 215-935-4191. We will tell you honestly whether we are the right fit, and if we are not, we will point you somewhere that is.

Signs Your Teen May Need More Than Weekly Therapy

Most parents who call us have already tried a therapist. That is usually the right first step. It is also not always enough.

It may be time to look at a higher level of care if you are seeing:

  • Withdrawal from friends, family, or activities they used to care about
  • A drop in grades or attendance that came on fast
  • Sleeping far more or far less than usual
  • Panic attacks, or anxiety that keeps them home from school
  • Anger or irritability that seems out of proportion to what set it off
  • Talk of hopelessness, or any mention of self harm
  • Alcohol or drug use that has moved past experimenting
  • A therapist who has told you they need more support than weekly sessions provide

If it helps to know, you are nowhere near alone in this. One in three Pennsylvania students is at risk due to depressive symptoms, according to the 2025 Pennsylvania Youth Survey, which collected responses from 267,379 students across the state.

You do not need to be certain. Most parents are not. A conversation costs nothing and takes about fifteen minutes.

How We Help

We recognize that each teen’s journey with mental health and co-occurring disorders is unique. Our comprehensive treatment approach combines clinical excellence with genuine compassion, creating a foundation for lasting healing and growth. Here’s how we support your teen’s journey to wellness:

  • Biopsychosocial Assessment – Every teen begins their journey with a comprehensive biopsychosocial assessment. This evaluation explores their emotional, psychological, physical, and social health. By understanding their history, current struggles, and environmental influences, we can create a personalized treatment plan that meets them where they are.
  • Psychiatric Evaluation – If needed, teens will also meet with a licensed psychiatric professional for a diagnostic evaluation. This helps identify or clarify any mental health conditions and determine if medication might be a helpful part of their treatment plan.
  • Individual Therapy – Our licensed therapists provide personalized one-on-one counseling tailored to each teen’s unique needs and challenges. Through these weekly sessions, teens develop deeper self-awareness, learn healthy coping strategies, and gain the tools needed to navigate life’s challenges with confidence.
  • Group Therapy – Our structured group sessions bring teens together in a safe, therapeutic environment where they can connect with peers facing similar challenges. Through facilitated discussions, skill-building activities, and mutual support, teens develop stronger social connections, practice healthy communication, and learn they’re not alone in their struggles. Groups focus on topics like anxiety management, emotional regulation, self-esteem, and positive coping skills.
  • Family Therapy – Our licensed therapists work collaboratively with teens and their families to strengthen relationships, improve communication patterns, and create a more supportive home environment. Through regular family sessions, we help parents better understand their teen’s challenges while giving teens tools to express their needs effectively. We address family dynamics, establish healthy boundaries, and develop practical strategies that promote healing for the whole family system.
  • Medication Management – Our board-certified psychiatric team provides comprehensive medication evaluation, prescription, and ongoing monitoring when medication is part of a teen’s treatment plan. We take a thoughtful, measured approach to medication, carefully weighing benefits and risks while keeping parents fully informed and involved in decisions. Through regular check-ins, we assess medication effectiveness, make adjustments as needed, and ensure optimal therapeutic outcomes with minimal side effects.
  • Educational Support – We understand that managing academic responsibilities during treatment is crucial for teens’ long-term success. Our dedicated educational coordinators work directly with schools, teachers, and guidance counselors to ensure continuity in your teen’s education. Through study skills coaching, organizational strategies, and academic counseling, we help teens maintain their educational progress while prioritizing their mental health.
  • Life Skills Training – Through structured workshops and hands-on activities, teens learn essential skills like stress management, healthy decision-making, time management, and conflict resolution. Our experienced facilitators guide teens through real-world scenarios, helping them build confidence in handling life’s challenges independently. From personal wellness and financial literacy to career planning, we prepare teens for successful transitions into young adulthood while supporting their mental health journey.

Our integrated approach ensures that every aspect of your teen’s well-being is addressed, creating a strong foundation for lasting recovery and emotional wellness.

What We Treat

Most of the teenagers we see are dealing with more than one thing at once. We treat the whole picture rather than the loudest symptom.

Mental health conditions:

  • Generalized anxiety disorder and panic disorder
  • Major depressive disorder
  • Bipolar disorder
  • PTSD and complex PTSD
  • Acute stress disorder
  • Obsessive compulsive disorder

More detail on the mental health conditions we treat.

Substance use, including when it sits alongside a mental health condition:

Plenty of the teens we work with are using something to manage a feeling they cannot name yet. Treating the substance use without treating what is underneath it does not hold. We treat both together, in the same program, with the same team.

That includes teen marijuana use, alcohol, vaping, and prescription misuse.

How Treatment Actually Works Here

Group therapy is the backbone. For adolescents, sitting in a room with other teenagers who are dealing with something similar does work that no adult in a chair can do. Individual therapy runs alongside it, and family therapy is part of the program rather than an optional extra, because what happens at home is part of what we are treating.

Teens who need it also get psychiatric evaluation and medication management from Dr. Jeffrey Berman, MD, our medical director, and Patricia Allen, PMHNP.

We also use approaches that reach kids who are not ready to sit across from an adult and talk, which is a lot of them:

  • Art therapy
  • Music therapy
  • Yoga, with a registered instructor on staff
  • Biofeedback
  • Pet therapy
  • Somatic re-experiencing for trauma held in the body

Our clinical program is directed by Danette Mitchell, LPC. Hope’s Destiny is accredited by The Joint Commission and licensed by the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services.

What Happens When You Call

No sales pitch. Here is the actual sequence.

  1. You call or text 215-935-4191. You describe what has been going on. This takes about fifteen minutes.
  2. We verify your insurance, at no cost, and tell you what your plan covers.
  3. Your teen completes a clinical assessment with a licensed clinician, who recommends a level of care based on what they find.
  4. Treatment starts, usually within a few days, and we contact your child’s school to set up the academic side.

If we are not the right fit for your family, we will say so and help you find somewhere that is.

Treatment That Works Around School, Not Instead of It

This is the part families are most surprised by, so we want to be direct about it.

When parents picture serious mental health treatment for a teenager, they usually picture their kid leaving. A facility somewhere out of state. A lost semester. A story to explain in September.

That is not what happens here.

Our teens attend treatment on a schedule built around the school day, then go home at night. They stay enrolled in their own district. They keep their friends, their family, and their routine, which for an adolescent is not a convenience, it is part of what makes treatment hold.

We also assign an educational coordinator who works directly with your child’s school, their teachers, and their guidance counselor. That person makes sure assignments keep moving, that the school understands the schedule, and that your teenager does not come out of treatment facing a mountain of missed work.

We do this for families across the Hatboro-Horsham, Upper Dublin, Abington, North Penn, and Central Bucks districts, among others.

Pulling a teenager out of their life to treat them carries its own cost. When we can treat around that life instead of interrupting it, we do.

Our Levels of Care for Teens Ages 14 to 18

Which program your teen starts in depends on what the assessment shows, not on what is available. Many teens step down through more than one as they improve.

Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)

The most structured option we offer, and the right starting point for teens who need daily clinical support.

  • Five days a week, four to five hours a day
  • Typically three to four weeks
  • Group and individual therapy, psychiatric oversight, family sessions
  • Your teen is home every evening

Learn more about our partial hospitalization program.

Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

A step down from PHP, or a starting point for teens who are managing school but struggling underneath it.

  • Three to five days a week, three hours a session
  • Typically six to eight weeks
  • Scheduled so it does not swallow the school day
  • Heavy emphasis on group work with peers the same age

Outpatient Program (OP)

Ongoing support after a higher level of care, or for teens whose needs are real but not acute.

  • Weekly individual therapy
  • Monthly family sessions as needed
  • Typically three to six months
  • Medication management continues if your teen is prescribed

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

The clearest signals are function and direction. If school, sleep, friendships, or mood are getting worse rather than better despite weekly sessions, or if their therapist has raised the question themselves, it is worth an assessment. The assessment is free and it is not a commitment to enroll.
Yes. That is the point of the program. Teens attend on a schedule built around the school day and go home each night, and an educational coordinator works directly with their school so assignments and credits keep moving.
Watch for change and duration rather than any single behavior. Withdrawal from people and activities, a fast drop in grades or attendance, big shifts in sleep or appetite, anger out of proportion to the situation, and expressions of hopelessness are the common ones. If something has persisted for a couple of weeks and is getting worse, it is worth a conversation. Any mention of self harm should be addressed immediately.
PHP typically runs three to four weeks, IOP six to eight weeks, and outpatient three to six months. Many teens move down through the levels. Your teen's clinician will give you a realistic timeline after the assessment.
Usually a substantial portion of it. We are in network with nine major carriers and verification is free, so you will know your actual cost before you decide.
This is one of the most common questions we get, and it is rarely a dealbreaker. Most teens arrive reluctant. What tends to change their mind is discovering the program is not what they pictured, and that the other kids in the room understand something their friends at school do not. Call us and we will talk through how to approach the conversation.
Yes, and usually at the same time. When a teen is using alcohol or drugs alongside anxiety, depression, or trauma, treating only one of the two tends not to hold. Both are handled by the same team in the same program.
Ages 14 to 18 in the adolescent program. We also offer adult treatment services for 18 and older.
